We've had his new bed for a few months and tried it a couple times, but he constantly came out of his room. The first night we did the regular routine and it only took a few minutes for him to walk down the hall poke his head around the corner and wave, with a hugh smile. It was so cute it made me laugh! (Not the right reaction if we want him to stay in his room, but I couldn't help it). It was all a big game to him, so we needed a plan.
We waited about another month and we were ready to put our plan into action. Oddly enough, he never came out of his room. (That only lasted about 2 weeks). He goes down great at bedtime, but we're still working on nap time. He would play for about an hour and then start opening the door and throwing toys out, mainly cars, and then close the door. Then he would just constantly come out so I had to be stationed at his door. That seriously tested my paitence. With about a week of that I had to get a child lock or I was going to go crazy! Needless to say, he's been in his bed for over a month and is doing great. FINALLY!! I still use the child lock, but it only takes him about a half hour before he goes to sleep. Sometimes in his bed and sometimes on the floor. These are some pictures that have captured the experience.
An absolute mess with the toys he can get to. I've tried to keep most of them out of reach or in the closet. (Although we just discovered he can climb up on top of the changing table).
This time he was proud of what he'd done.
Playing a little while and then going to sleep on the floor.
Hearing him cry and going to investigate. Not sure how he got in the chair that way. It happened a few times.
Thinking he's in his room and going to check on him.
He was quiet because he was getting into trouble. With a whole role of toilet paper and toilet water. EWWWWW! (Another reason for the child lock).
Oh the joys of his new found freedom!
